The Hawaiian Island of Kauai has it all: incredible beaches, beautiful historical and cultural sights, and world class cuisine. The restaurants and eateries on Kauai range from traditional fare to innovative fusion. Many wouldn’t think that Hawaii would be a place to find great Mexican food, but one restaurant along Poipu Road in Kauai excels at it: Da Crack.

When you first arrive at the restaurant you’ll see the whimsical sign that gives the eatery its name. It’s an all take-out spot, so plan to get your meal to go rather than sitting down and receiving waiter service. The menu here is simple and straight forward, but the flavor of the food is excellent. Anyone who is craving good Tex-Mex will be fully satisfied after eating at Da Crack.

The menu is affordable and posted right on the side of the building. Mexican staples such as burritos, hard and soft tacos, and enchiladas are an example of the selection you’ll find at Da Crack. The veggie burrito is surprisingly healthy to be so delicious and includes house made sauce, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, brown rice, and beans. Da Crack’s burrito bowl is another filling meal that’s a great value for the price. Kids meals are available as well, and there are a variety of non-alcoholic drinks including fruit punch, sodas, and bottled water.

Here are some ordering tips. Look through the menu on Da Crack’s building before getting in line to order so you’ll have a better idea of what you want. Remember that add ons – such as extra jalapenos, cheese, guacamole, and the like – cost extra (the prices for add ons are listed right on the menu board). Step up to the window when you’re ready to order, and a friendly staff member will get your food out as quickly as possible. Once you smell the delicious aromas coming from the inside of Da Crack, it will be hard to wait before diggin in — this is why it’s very common to see customers eating right outside of the restaurant. For a quick bite of Tex-Mex that’s incredibly tasty, head to Da Crack the next time you visit Kauai.
